Selecting text, sometimes referred to as highlighting, to edit is done the same way as in other programs. This lets the program know what element of the page you want to alter.
This is not the same as highligting text on a web page from your editor toolbar.

To select text simply hold down your left mouse button as you drag across the text. It will change color (blue background) designating that it has been selected.
Then you can perform a function on that text, such as deleting, typing over or a function from the toolbar such as color or creating a link.
